Dubrovnik

A fortified medieval port city on the Adriatic coast of Croatia/Cities & Urban

Dubrovnik is a Croatian city on the Adriatic Sea whose medieval old town is enclosed by massive stone walls built between the 13th and 17th centuries. The walls stretch nearly 2 kilometers in total length and reach up to 25 meters in height, with towers spaced at regular intervals. Known historically as the Republic of Ragusa, Dubrovnik was a wealthy maritime republic that rivaled Venice for centuries. The old town covers about 14 hectares and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Heavily damaged during the Croatian War of Independence in 1991, the city underwent extensive restoration. Its limestone streets and terracotta rooftops have made it one of the most photographed cities in Europe, and it served as a filming location for the fictional city of King's Landing.
