David by Michelangelo

5.17 meters of marble confidence/Art & Sculpture

Michelangelo carved David from a single block of Carrara marble between 1501 and 1504. Standing 5.17 meters tall (including the base), it depicts the biblical hero before his battle with Goliath. The statue's right hand is disproportionately large, possibly because Michelangelo knew it would be viewed from below. It weighs about 5,660 kg.
