Danube River
Europe's second-longest river, passing through ten countries/Rivers
The Danube flows 2,850 km from the Black Forest in Germany to the Black Sea in Romania, passing through or bordering ten countries, more than any other river in the world. Its basin covers 801,000 square kilometers and is home to about 80 million people. The Danube passes through four capital cities (Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, and Belgrade), more than any other river. It has inspired countless works of art and music, most famously Johann Strauss II's waltz 'The Blue Danube,' though the river is rarely actually blue.
