Cricket Pitch
The 22-yard strip at the center of the gentleman's game/Sports
The cricket pitch is the carefully prepared strip of ground at the center of a cricket field where the bowler delivers the ball and the batsman plays. It measures exactly 20.12 m (22 yards or 1 chain) between the bowling creases and 3.05 m wide. The pitch is prepared from rolled clay soil, cut short, and is maintained throughout a match. At each end, three wooden stumps 71.1 cm tall and 22.86 cm wide collectively, topped by two bails, form the wicket. The pitch condition (hard, green, dusty, cracked) profoundly affects how the game plays.
