The Little Mermaid Statue (Copenhagen)

A small bronze figure with an outsized reputation/Statues & Monuments

The Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen harbor is surprisingly small at just 1.25 meters tall, perched on a boulder by the waterside since 1913. Sculpted by Edvard Eriksen, it depicts Hans Christian Andersen's famous fairy tale character. The statue has been vandalized repeatedly over the decades, losing her head twice and her arm once. Despite her modest size, she draws over a million visitors per year.
