Congo Rainforest
The second-largest tropical rainforest, in the heart of Africa/Forests
The Congo Rainforest in central Africa is the world's second-largest tropical rainforest, covering approximately 2 million square kilometers across six countries (Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon). It is home to over 10,000 plant species, 1,000 bird species, and 400 mammal species including forest elephants, gorillas, and bonobos. The Congo Basin absorbs roughly 1.5 billion tonnes of CO2 annually, making it critical to global climate regulation.
