An ancient wonder lost to an earthquake after just 54 years/Ancient Structures

The Colossus of Rhodes was a bronze and iron statue of the sun god Helios that stood about 33 meters tall at the entrance to the harbor of Rhodes, Greece. Completed around 280 BCE, it stood for only 54 years before an earthquake snapped it at the knees. The ruins lay on the ground for over 800 years before being sold for scrap. It was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
