Chan's Megastick

The longest insect in the world at over half a meter/Insects & Arachnids

Phobaeticus chani, commonly called Chan's megastick, is the longest known insect, with a total body length of 35.7 cm and a length of 56.7 cm including outstretched legs. Discovered in the rainforests of Borneo, it was described in 2008 and named after the Malaysian naturalist Datuk Chan Chew Lun. Like other stick insects, it relies on near-perfect camouflage to resemble a twig. Only six specimens have ever been collected, making it one of the rarest insects known.
