Borneo

The world's third-largest island, shared by three nations/Islands

Borneo is the third-largest island in the world at 743,330 square kilometers, shared by Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak), Indonesia (Kalimantan), and Brunei. Its lowland and montane rainforests are among the oldest on Earth (estimated 130-140 million years old) and contain extraordinary biodiversity including orangutans, pygmy elephants, and the world's largest flower (Rafflesia). Mount Kinabalu at 4,095 m is the highest peak in Southeast Asia. Sadly, rapid deforestation for palm oil has destroyed much of Borneo's forest cover.
