An illuminated Gospel manuscript from medieval Ireland/Art & Sculpture

The Book of Kells is an illuminated manuscript of the four Gospels created around 800 CE, likely at a monastery founded by St. Columba. It contains 340 folios of vellum (calfskin) with elaborately decorated pages featuring interlocking Celtic knots and animal forms. It has been housed at Trinity College Dublin since 1661.
