Blue Whale Calf

Born at 7 meters long and gaining 90 kg per day/Biology & Ecosystems

A newborn blue whale calf is already one of the largest animals on Earth at birth, measuring about 7 meters long and weighing approximately 2,700 kg. The calf drinks about 380 liters of its mother's fat-rich milk per day and gains roughly 90 kg each day during its first year. By the time it is weaned at 6 to 7 months old, the calf has nearly doubled in length to about 13 meters. Blue whale milk is about 35% fat, giving it the consistency of cottage cheese.
