Blanket Octopus

A female 40,000 times heavier than her mate/Marine Life

The blanket octopus (Tremoctopus violaceus) displays one of the most extreme examples of sexual dimorphism in the animal kingdom. Females can reach 2 meters in total length and weigh up to 40 kg, while males are only about 2.4 cm long and weigh less than a gram. Females unfurl large, rainbow-colored membranes between their arms to appear larger to predators. Males have been observed tearing off tentacles from Portuguese man-of-war and wielding them as weapons. Females are immune to the man-of-war's venom.
