Bismarck

Nazi Germany's most feared warship, sunk on her maiden voyage/Ships & Boats

The Bismarck was the pride of the German Kriegsmarine and one of the largest battleships ever built by a European power. On her maiden combat voyage in May 1941, she sank HMS Hood in a spectacular explosion, then was hunted across the Atlantic by virtually the entire Royal Navy. She was finally sunk after a torpedo jammed her rudder, leaving her sailing in circles. The metaphor writes itself.
