Benin Bronze Plaque

Cast brass reliefs from the Kingdom of Benin/Art & Sculpture

The Benin Bronzes are a group of over 3,000 brass plaques and sculptures from the royal palace of the Kingdom of Benin (modern Nigeria), created between the 13th and 19th centuries. Despite the name, most are cast in brass, not bronze. They were looted by British forces in 1897 and dispersed among Western museums.
