Beijing, the capital of China, is one of the most populous cities on Earth with about 21.5 million residents across a municipal area of roughly 16,410 square kilometers. The city has been a center of power for over 800 years and contains six UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and sections of the Great Wall. Its six concentric ring roads span progressively outward from the ancient city center. The Sixth Ring Road alone is 187 kilometers in circumference. Beijing hosted the Summer Olympics in 2008 and the Winter Olympics in 2022, the only city to host both.
