Atlas Moth

The world's largest moth with wings like stained glass/Insects & Arachnids

The Atlas moth of Southeast Asia has the largest wing area of any insect, with a total span reaching 30 cm tip to tip. Its wings feature translucent triangular patches that some researchers believe mimic snake heads to deter predators. Adults have no functional mouths and cannot eat, so they survive on fat reserves for only one to two weeks. Their entire adult life is a race to reproduce before they starve.
